At Last It's Here !

The Mini DV/HDV 1080i Camcorder.

What will it do for you? Well give you an ache in the wrist as it’s quite a large bulky camera, but allow you to achieve High Definition (HDV format) at a fraction of the cost.

Other than that you will be able to shoot a lot more resolution than any mini DV camera on the market; the HDR-FX1E has a resolution of 1080/1440 the picture looks fantastic when comparing to 576/720 PAL.

Editors, Producers & Directors, Don’t despair about the new HDV format, you can; edit with the usual edit software like Final Cut Pro, Pinnacle DV express and so on.

Scenario:
Shoot HDV on the SONY HDR-FX1E use the camera to down convert to DV PAL either in component or i-link/ to capture to your Edit system, or simply to monitor the picture output if you don’t have a HD monitor.

Option -1

Edit in the normal way on your chosen platform. ( In DV mode)
Output your final edit to the camcorder in DV mode as you have always done.

Option-2

Use a HDV compatible software solution. Capture HDV edit in HDV and output the program to your camcorder in HDV component or i-link.
Make a transfer from your camcorder Component HDV to Component PAL.
Digital Betacam or DVCAM or SP whichever your delivery format needs are.

Basically this camcorder allows you to shoot in Hi Res HDV or in Normal Res DV and has a built in down converter.

The picture looks better when shooting in High Definition (HDV format).

Resolution and down converting to PAL or NTSC.

Cons:
Eject mechanism.
The placement of the headphone jack.
Nice having a cross hair but why so large (domestic).
